Datuk Michael Manyin ak Jawong, Minister of Urban Development and Tourism, addresses distinguished guests, invited press and television on the historic occasion  of the official inaugural direct flight service from Kuching to Mulu on the 15th  of  September 2009.                                                         He said, "The service industry cannot succeed without connectivity and cooperation of all its components, from the airline to tour agencies to hotels." He noted that since he took office of the Ministry last year, there are still people, foreigners especially, who are not aware of Sarawak and what it has to offer. According to Datuk Manyin the first country that his Ministry will target for Mulu is Singapore. The Ministry will be targeting short-haul destinations such as Singapore, Brunei, Australia, Taiwan, China. Korea and Japan, in addition to the long-haul market in Europe and America.

MASwings Managing Director Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani in his welcoming address, announces the introduction of the new Direct Flight Service from Kuching to Mulu. He mentioned that previously it took visitors three hours to reach Mulu from Kuching via Miri, including transit time. Now, with the introduction of the direct service, it takes only one hour 35 minutes to arrive in Mulu from Kuching. The direct service will of course give visitors the benefit of a seamless connectivity by MASwings. Salleh also stated that a reduction in the flying and transit times will not only be more convenient, but will give our visitors more time to explore and experience the pristine rainforest environment at Mulu.

In conjunction with the launch of the Direct Flights from Kuching to Mulu (3 flights a week) the Royal Mulu Resort have introduced a 'SPECIAL OFFER' to visitors who book into the resort for the 'Kuching Mulu Direct Package'

WILSON explains his concept to Datuk Michael Manyin

Wilson and Dato Robert Geneid un-veiled the painting 'Iconic Sarawak' and it was then presented to the minister. Wilson was asked by Dato Robert to explain to the minister the concept behind the painting and how it could be effectively used as a backdrop which would assist the minister in giving his international audiences an appreciation of the natural beauty and the very diverse cultural heritage of Sarawak. WILSON's hope is that the work will fulfil it's main purpose, and will assist in the promotion of Sarawak, and especially attract visitors to the pristine rainforest and the unique offerings of Mulu National Park. This painting had been commissioned by the Minister earlier in March this year.                                                                                                                             (From left to right in the photograph, Press Photographer, Managing Director of PARABENA Datuk Radzziah Mahmud-Geneid, Wilson the Artist, Datuk Michael Manyin, and BORSA Mulu Managing Director Dato Robert Geneid)
